So our main transfer target?(Lacazette)does not even make the French squad?

I'd agree if you said Bertrand, who imo is the best English left back defensively and has a quality left peg to deliver into the box, but Rose is not a much better defender than Cresswell, in fact, I have been astonished at how bad Rose is defensively in his few games for England, we are going to get badly found out down his flank if he is a starter.

I see Rosicky is in the Czech squad after playing 19 mins of football for Arsenal this season.

tbf there are only 4 european countries ranked above us, so that's not exactly a revelation that he would get into 'most' of the squads. he should be in our squad.

Mark Noble was left at home, he would walk into most of the Euro squads.

Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
Some players that are fit and not picked in the 23

Nearly all walk into ours

- Bernat
- Gaya
- Isco
- Saul
- Cazorla
- Diego Costa
- Alcacer
- Trapp
- Weidenfeller
- Ginter
- Bellarabi
- Kramer
- Sakho
- Ben Arfa
- Gameiro
- Lacazette
- Kondogbia

And thats without the ones who wouldnt be in the 23 if some countries had fully fit squads. Italy and France especially have major injury woes

Our lack of depth and quality in the selection process is scary

Frustrating that for years we had a solid defence and midfield, but fuck all up top. Maybe only ever one international quality striker at a time.

Now we have 4 very good and in form strikers, but a bang average midfield and a fairly flimsy defence- at least in the CB position.

It's a young team, bit light at the back and midfield but you never know? There isn't any high expectations like the so called golden generation. So, let's just behind them and enjoy the tournamount.

One big thing about Noble, aside from his form and stats etc, is that he is more of a captain than anyone in that squad. This was recognised at every level of the England set up until the senior squad.

I'd love the next manager to not just try him out on the road to Russia, but try him as captain. Is there a potential England manager, other than Bilic, who might see sense in that?

Rossal - Wilshere can carry the ball, link play and pick out a decisive pass, that's why he's there.

as soon as he gets tackled with any force he'll go down injured, he always does.

Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
I think it is difficult as there aren't many obvious names who have been left out. Noble is by far the stand out omission and it is really weird how Antonio wasn't even really mentioned as a contender for the squad after the season that he's had.

Cresswell was unlucky too but it's not as if there are poor players being chosen in front of him.

I think we'll do okay and we do have a chance of winning it. However I think Antonio would have given us something completely different and we've missed a trick there. Sterling went for £49m but Antonio offers much more and is far more consistent. What a great signing he was!

Rossal 12:47 Wed Jun 1
Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
People speak of Wilshere as if he is as imperative to England as Ronaldo to Portugal or Ibra for Sweden

I think he is bang average. Loves a tackle but distribution nothing special, doesn't get load of assists, hardly shoots let alone scores

I just don't get it

The bloke hardly ever plays why is there such a wankfest over him ?

i-Ron 12:34 Wed Jun 1
Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
Tom, I'd probably have one fit Noble over 2 unfit players in Wilshere and Henderson.

I think Wilshere is better than Drinkwater too, but the fitness outweighs it all.

I'd have Antonio just because I'd be confident he wouldn't bottle it and give it everything. I've seen some big names bottle it before who are a lot better players than him.

I reckon Sterling has done more over a season than Townsend, and without playing wingers I can see why he's been dropped.

And sorry to be a bit anti-west ham in many fans eyes but Rose is a better defender than Cresswell is without a shadow of a doubt. Even a kid at West Brom managed to really get at Cresswell defensively. Not bad going forwards obviously but defensively he's weak in my opinion. Esepcially in an already fragile defence. Not for me. Even as backup to Rose.

Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
I can also understand the thinking behind taking Wilshere. The issue I have is that the manager lies blatantly when he says he can't pick Noble on the basis of one (really? only one Roy?) good season, et he picks Wilshere who hasn't even had a season. he has also said numerous times that he will pick players on form, Wilshere has no form, and the likes of Henderson are being picked ahead of Drinkwater and Noble even though his form is clearly far worse.

Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
I don't mind Wilshire being there as the boy is obviously an extremely gifted footballer, though fitness is an issue.

Henderson though does make me a little angry though, as he's proper average.

Tomshardware 12:11 Wed Jun 1
Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
For starters, Townsned, Antonio, Drinkwater in for Wilshire, Henderson, Stirling. Defensively I'd have picked Cresswell over Rose.

Who'd you have instead Toms?

Tomshardware 12:01 Wed Jun 1
Re: England Euro 2016 squad to be named at 11am
Ok so a few new faces comma, but there are a lot in that squad who have shown themselves to be short of having the ability at tournaments. Also quite a few of them have had average or poor seasons for their club sides. Attacking wise we have good options but at International level games are won and lost in the midfield.
